Dong Liu and his collaborators have successfully developed a novel reconstruction approach for electrical impedance tomography (EIT). EIT is a non-invasive, radiation-free, real-time imaging modality. However, the EIT has not yet fully established itself as a clinic imaging method. This is mainly due to the poorer spatial imaging resolution compared to MRI or CT and this is the central challenge for the EIT. In Dong Liu’s current work, a priori shape information was incorporated into the optimization problem of EIT, with which high spatial resolution images of pneumothorax and pleural effusion in an animal model were achieved.
